SAUERESSIG research project wins Science Prize of the Stifterverband

The ultra-short pulse laser is seeing ever wider acceptance among industrial users as a tool for precision manufacturing. In particular, these advances are due to new developments or technological progress in system technology, which increase productivity considerably. A few years ago, a team from industry and research was formed with Dr. Gerald Jenke (SAUERESSIG Group), Dr. Stephan Brüning (Schepers GmbH & Co. KG), Dr. Keming Du (EdgeWave GmbH) and Dr. Manfred Jarczynski (LIMO GmbH) as well as laser researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology in order to advance this focus. The team has developed a technology in which a laser beam is split into up to 16 partial beams. That means there are 16 tools controlled in parallel and individually to produce functional surfaces.

This joint research work was now awarded the Science Prize of the Stifterverband for Collaborative Research. The prize – endowed with 50.000€ – was handed over last Friday during an online award ceremony. Dr. Gerald-Jenke joint the virtual event in the EvoLounge at the Vreden site.
The project was funded from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the framework of the funding initiative “The Basis of Photonics: Functional Surfaces and Coatings.”
